چکیده
In this paper, we derive a novel formulation to solve an important FIlR filter optimization problem. The problem has received considerable at tention in the past because it appears in a wide variety of disciplines. The newliy proposed method finds the globally optimal solution to the problem and provides several other advantages over previous optimization techniques. I . Rate-distortion-optimal subband coding without perfect-reconstruction constraints
We investigate the design of subband coders without the traditional perfect-reconstruction constraint on the filters. The coder uses scalar quantizers, and its filters and bit allocation are designed so as to optimize a rate-distortion criterion. Our results hold for a broad class of ratedistortion criteria that satisfy certain convexity properties. We begin by showing that optimality can be ac...
متن کاملCapacity Definitions and Coding Strategies for General Channels with Receiver Side Information - Information Theory, 1998. Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Symposium on
We consider three capacity definitions for a channel with channel side information at t h e receiver. T h e capacity is the highest rate asymptotically achievable. T h e outage capacity is t h e highest rate asymptotically achievable with a given probability of decoder-recognized outage. The expected capacity is t h e highest expected rate asymptotically achievable using a single encoder a n d ...
متن کاملOptimal Sequential Vector Quantization of Markov Sources - Information Theory, 1998. Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Symposium on
The problem of optimal sequential vector quantization of Markov sources is cast as a stochastic control problem wi th partial observations and constraints, leading to useful existence results for optimal codes and their characterizations.
متن کاملRobust Decoding for Non-Gaussian CDMA and Non-Exponential Timing Channels - Information Theory, 1998. Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Symposium on
The capacity region of the two-user Gaussian CDMA channel is shown to be achievable when the (stationary, ergodic) noise is not Gaussian, using a decoder matched to the Gaussian distribution. Similarly, the capacity of the exponential server timing channel is shown to be achievable when the service distribution is not exponential, using a decoder matched to the exponential distribution. The cod...
